AGlaze International is pleased to announce the results of an independent scientific evaluation by the University of Johannesburg, comparing untreated aircraft paint panels with identical panels treated with AGlaze Aviation SealantTM. The study measured contact angles and surface free energy (SFE) using recognised laboratory methods.
The results showed that AGlaze significantly changes the surface properties of aircraft paint. In particular, and most importantly, the polar component of the surface free energy decreased by more than 55%.
The reduction in the polar component is particularly significant because it means the treated surface has a much lower attraction to water and other polar contaminants. This provides the scientific basis for the reduced wetting and contaminant adhesion that underpin many of the operational benefits reported by aircraft operators.
The report concluded that AGlaze creates a lower-energy, more hydrophobic surface, providing independent scientific evidence that it modifies the physicochemical properties of aircraft coatings in a manner consistent with its intended function as a protective surface treatment.
